I've really enjoyed reading your articles. You obviously know what you are talking about! Your site is so easy to navigate too, I've bookmarked it in my favourites

Fun as a teenager
I have fond memories of when John Benz (in the family) and his friends used to stage haunted house parties with eerie noises and props at Termite Hall. This was in 1959 & 60, before the days of hi-tech electronics. My Dad and Eleanor Marston were classmates. Where is pretty little SarahBenz now?

Mrs.
Upon moving to Mobile in 2006, I was hungry for a more "domestic" history of my new town and neighborhood. I found and read the book by your cousin, Helen Scully, and "Gulf Stream" by Marie Stanley. I was entranced by "In the Hope of Rising Again," and drove round and round my midtown neighborhood, trying to find the house that was depicted in the book. Imagine my thrill in finding out that the house I sought turns out to be my favorite house in Mobile! In my mind the property was situated to the East of my own neighborhood (Hall Place), not West as is in fact the case. I enjoyed reading the article in Mobile Bay magazine. I LOVE the idea of a book club. Best of luck in your restoration. I hope to meet you some day and hear more about your grandmother and great grandmother. Also, my next door neighbor, Jay Higginbotham, often speaks of the visit of the Russian Poet Yevtushenko. How exciting for me to hear "first hand" the accounts of our history!

Exterior photos
Hi Angela, I live down Dauphin Street, on South Reed Avenue, from Termite Hall. I've been attempting to photograph all of Mobile's places on the National Register and would love to get permission to photograph the front exterior, since it can't be seen very well from the road. I would be very appreciative if you could let me know if this would this be okay.

Eleanor Marston Benz
Checking to see how Eleanor is doing? I worked in the library while a student at McGill ('71). I wrote an article called "Who is Eleanor Marston Benz?" for School Library Journal several years ago and spoke with Eleanor at that time. She's a grand southern belle. Give her my love and please let me know how she is doing.

The joy of renovations!
It was great meeting you last night at the library. Grandy's room looks so familiar! I have rooms like that! I know the effort (all too well). Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking, but then I realize......well, what else would I be doing? It is a wonderful, creative project and I will have years to enjoy the finished product and so will you. It'll all be well worth the effort (someday!). Feel free to call for support, commiseration, sharing of sources, etc.

Mr.
I started hanging out at Termite Hall 45 yrs ago and some of my favorite reveries carry me back to those care-free days when Mrs. Marston, the Benzes, and the Triggs were so tolerant of me. May God ever bless each one of you.
